Charli XCX - arguably the hottest pop star on the planet - is set to take over the iconic Orange Stage at this year's Roskilde Festival, as one of 20 new acts just announced. The British singer and producer returns after delivering one of the biggest pop celebrations in recent time on the festival's second-largest stage last year. Charli XCX's 2024 album Brat earned her two Grammy Awards and a Brit Award and has been hailed as one of the year's best by media outlets like The New York Times, The Guardian, NME, and Rolling Stone. In the fall of 2024, she released a remix album, Brat and It's Completely Different but Also Still Brat, featuring contributions from artists like Robyn, Billie Eilish, Lorde, and Ariana Grande. Festival participants can expect something completely different from last year's show - and yet still unmistakably Brat! "Charli XCX is one of the most vital voices in pop today. With her fearless and boundary-pushing approach, she breaks conventions and shifts gears like no one else. In true Charli XCX fashion, she's already reinvented her live show with an extravagant new concept, and we can't wait to bring it to life on the Orange Stage this summer", says Roskilde Festival's Head of Music, Thomas Sønderby Jepsen. African celebrations on main stage The Orange Stage will also host a major pan-African celebration with Africa Express, the collective founded by Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn. The British rock icon will once again join the collective, which will perform with a star-studded lineup and showcase material from their new album. Also joining the festival is South African singer-songwriter Tyla, whose blend of pop, R&B, and amapiano is making waves worldwide. Tyla's debut album dropped in 2024, the same year she had to cancel a much-anticipated performance at Roskilde Festival. Samba, funk, and Sámi songs from across the globe From Brazil, Charanga do França brings high-energy samba with brass, percussion, and protest, performing both on stage and in roaming parades. Congo's Ngwaka Son Systéme turns scrap into homebuild instruments and wild, danceable sounds, while Sweden's Katarina Barruk blends pop and ancient Sámi joik, singing in the critically endangered Ume-Sámi language. "We make a great effort to create a lineup packed with names that you won't find at other festivals, and with today's announcement, we are now at 171 music acts from a total of 40 countries. The lineup is close to being complete-but not quite yet!", says Thomas Sønderby Jepsen. An already impressive lineup Roskilde Festival 2025 is shaping up to be a groundbreaking event with a lineup that already includes world-class acts like Olivia Rodrigo, Stormzy, Doechii, FKA Twigs, Fontaines D.C., Nine Inch Nails, and Arca.
