Seventy percent of the aluminum used for the high stool comes from recycled old pipes, tubing, and other aluminum waste. The aluminum scraps are melted and mixed with thirty percent new material to obtain a clear silvery expression. The High Stools are handcrafted in India by skilled craftspeople who practice the ancient technique of sand casting. Sand casting is a traditional metal casting process characterised by the use of sand as the moulding form. Hard-packed sand is sculpted around a model. When the model is removed, it creates a hollow form that can be filled with melted aluminum. |
