Roskilde Festival, Northern Europe's largest festival and one of the most influential in the world, has announced another major addition to its 2026 line-up: The Cure. The iconic British band, led by the ever-charismatic Robert Smith, will celebrate their 50th anniversary next year and mark the milestone with a special performance at Roskilde Festival. The Cure will perform on Wednesday 1 July, making them one of the very first acts to play the non-profit and independent festival's new and expanded main stage. "The Cure is one of the most distinctive and beloved bands in rock history. They've played our festival many times, and each time they've created a magical atmosphere that unites the entire festival community across generations. To welcome them back to our new Orange Stage next summer, in the same year they celebrate 50 years as a band, will be a truly historic moment," says Thomas Sønderby Jepsen, Head of Music at Roskilde Festival. Formed in 1976, The Cure released their debut album Three Imaginary Boys in 1979. Since then, they have left an indelible mark as pioneers of goth rock and post-punk, with classic albums such as Pornography and Disintegration and timeless songs like 'Just Like Heaven', 'Friday I'm In Love' and 'Boys Don't Cry'. In 2024, Robert Smith and co. returned after a 16-year album hiatus with Songs of a Lost World, which received widespread critical acclaim. Yesterday, Roskilde Festival revealed the first names for its 2026 edition - including Gorillaz, Ethel Cain, Sierra Ferrell, and ¥ØU$UK€ ¥UK1MAT$U - setting the tone for a musically diverse and forward-looking line-up.
