Roskilde Festival 2020 reemerges – you just have build it yourself

The big events this summer are cancelled but that doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy the festival community through the music, art and food with your friends. On what should have been the final day of the festival, Roskilde Festival helps all participants create their own festival at home. As always, you can also support the opportunities of children and young people.

Like 49 times before, thousands of people had been looking forward to storming into the festival site, to gather in front of the Orange Stage, to start up a party in the numerous camps or to volunteer. To take part in the countless things that make Roskilde Festival an experience without comparison.

As you know, that is not possible this year, but it does not mean that there cannot be a festival - or something similar. The participants just have to build it themselves at home.

Saturday 4 July - what should have been the culminating closing day of this year's festival - marks the opening day of 'Roskilde Festival - do it yourself'. Here, the participants can pitch a tent in the living room, play beer bowling in the backyard, create the perfect playlist, be inspired or provoked by the art - and share it all with the other participants online. Just like we all share experiences at the festival every year.

In the weeks leading up to the event, participants can find inspiration from Roskilde Festival's many guides to music, food, art and activism so that all the self-made festivals will have a common orange glow.

Buy tickets to your own festival
When you buy a ticket to Roskilde Festival and participate on site, you support the opportunities and communities of children and young people every year. The festival is basically a fundraising event where all the profits are donated to charitable causes.

In a similar fashion, it is possible to buy donation tickets and merchandise for 'Roskilde Festival - do it yourself' just as you can acquire a festival wristband for the special event.

The profits from the ticket sale go in full to initiatives that give young people a voice and strengthen young people's communities.

Roskilde Festival's spokeswoman, Christina Bilde, says:

"Unfortunately, we cannot meet up at the festival site this year. Fortunately, the festival community thrives in so many other ways. In recent months, we have seen tremendous support, and many people have announced that they plan to celebrate the festival. It is absolutely fundamental to us that we can be a platform for such communities. So, we hope that many people will come together and enjoy music, food, art and the Roskilde community while supporting young people's voices and opportunities."
