How Pulsatil shaped the atmosphere of the Orient Express Corinthian through light

With the official launch of the Orient Express Corinthian, attention has naturally turned to its remarkable architecture, craftsmanship, and interiors. Yet one of the vessel's most defining elements reveals itself more quietly. Throughout the suites and lounges, light has been carefully composed to shape the atmosphere, creating spaces that invite rest, comfort, and reflection as the journey unfolds.

Developed in close collaboration with architect Maxime d'Angeac, Pulsatil conceived and produced the majority of the yacht's bespoke lighting, designing 471 luminaires across more than twenty models. While each piece fulfills a technical function, their greater role is emotional. Rather than simply illuminating a room, they establish rhythm, soften transitions between spaces, and create a sense of calm that accompanies guests throughout the vessel.

Within the private suites, lighting was designed to feel intimate rather than decorative. Gentle diffusion, carefully balanced illumination, and thoughtfully selected materials create environments that shift naturally throughout the day, supporting moments of reading, conversation, or quiet retreat. Every luminaire contributes to an effortless atmosphere, allowing architecture and materiality to remain at the forefront.

The lounges adopt a different beat while maintaining the same sense of restraint. Here, lighting reinforces the layered character of the interiors, revealing rich wood veneers, leather, and stone while encouraging spaces that feel welcoming without becoming theatrical. Light becomes an invisible architectural material, bringing depth and warmth without drawing attention to itself.

This approach reflects Pulsatil's broader philosophy that lighting should shape how a space is experienced rather than simply how it is seen. On board the Orient Express Corinthian, every source of illumination was carefully considered to create continuity between public and private spaces, balancing technical precision with emotional comfort.

The result is an environment where light quietly accompanies every moment of the voyage.
