Maison&Objet unveils the 12th edition of its biannual barometer, the international benchmark for analyzing trends in the design, decoration, and lifestyle sectors. Conducted in April 2026 among 1,323 international professionals-including brands, retailers, and specifiers from around one hundred countries-this survey provides insight into the sector's performance over the past six months and its outlook for the months ahead.

In an economic environment that remains challenging, marked by persistent tensions and more cautious consumers, industry players continue to demonstrate a strong capacity for adaptation. Despite an overall mixed perception of the market, professionals continue to invest, renew their offerings, and maintain encouraging prospects for the months ahead.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Overall Stable Business Activity and Improving Outlook

 

Over the past six months, 62% of professionals report stable or growing revenue. Stability has emerged as the dominant trend: 44% report stable business activity, representing an increase of 5 percentage points compared with 2025. Looking ahead to the next six months, the outlook remains encouraging: 80% anticipate stable or positive business activity, with 51% expecting stable revenue and 29% forecasting growth.

Retail: Retailers Continue to Refresh Their Offerings

 

Retailers continue to refresh their offerings, having added an average of 4 new brands over the past six months. This represents stable momentum compared with the previous year, with a stronger pace internationally (an average of 4.8 new brands compared with 3.8 in France).

 

Inventory levels remain generally under control: 57% of retailers consider them "normal," a level comparable to 2025. The Gift, Fragrance & Wellness, and Fashion categories rank among the strongest-performing segments over the period.

 

Despite a demanding environment, confidence remains. More than one retailer in two plans to maintain or increase orders from brands over the next six months (42% at the same level and 10% at a higher level), while 76% anticipate stable or positive revenue.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Brands: Innovation, Craftsmanship, and Sustainability at the Heart of Their Strategies

 

Brands continue to demonstrate strong momentum. Their inventory levels remain under control, with 61% considering them "normal," while 89% plan to launch new products over the next six months.

 

Confidence remains strong: 77% anticipate stable or growing revenue.

 

New product offerings are built around priorities clearly identified by professionals. Craftsmanship and expertise rank first among the criteria expected to shape tomorrow's products (53%), ahead of sustainability and eco-responsibility (39%), design and aesthetics (33%), and experience and emotion (29%).

Specifiers: Projects Focused on Well-being and Experience

 

Specifiers secured an average of 4.3 new projects over the past six months. Residential remains the primary market, ahead of workspaces and retail, while hospitality continues to represent a significant driver of business activity.

 

Client expectations are also evolving. Budget-related issues (40%) and sustainable materials (39%) now rank among the main requests expressed by clients.

 

For the spaces of tomorrow, well-being and sensory experiences top the list of cited trends (38%), ahead of modularity and flexibility (36%), aesthetics and personalization (33%), and sustainability (31%).

 

The outlook remains favorable: 83% of specifiers anticipate stable or positive business activity over the next six months.
