Circular Design in Practice:
How Parador's Modular ONE Sets a New Standard for Sustainable Flooring

With over 90% of its raw materials derived from renewable sources and PVC-free construction, Parador's Modular ONE exemplifies how design innovation and environmental responsibility can coexist seamlessly

For Parador, sustainability isn't a marketing line; it's the framework that guides everything the company does. Rooted in the belief that great design should be both beautiful and responsible, the global flooring brand has spent nearly five decades rethinking how materials are sourced, manufactured, and used. That ethos comes together in Parador ONE, a company-wide commitment to design with purpose, and its clearest expression yet is Modular ONE, a resilient flooring that sets a new standard for sustainability.

The Foundation of Circular Design

As a non-vinyl resilient flooring made from more than 90 percent renewable raw materials, Modular ONE is engineered to meet the realities of modern life while reducing environmental impact. Its multi-layer construction features a PEFC-certified wood core, a renewable cork backing that regenerates naturally every nine years, and a polypropylene surface free from PVC, plasticisers, and harmful emissions.

Certified to E1 in accordance with ISO 16000, Modular ONE is one of the most environmentally responsible products in its class. The result is a durable, low-maintenance floor that supports healthy indoor air quality and maintains exceptional stability even in spaces exposed to moisture, offering protection for up to 100 hours in wet conditions.

Designing for Longevity

Modular ONE isn't just made from renewable materials; it's built to last. Durability and longevity are key to Parador's view of circular design, ensuring each floor performs for decades rather than years. Every element is carefully considered, from its high-density core to its lightfast surface that resists fading under prolonged sunlight.

"Circular design is about designing for the entire lifecycle," notes CEO Neel Bradham. "It's not only what goes into the product, but how long it lasts and how it can be responsibly recycled at the end. That's what makes sustainability real."

A Holistic Approach

Parador's sustainability ambitions go far beyond product design. Across its facilities in Germany and Austria, the company is steadily advancing toward CO₂-neutral production by 2025. Renewable energy sources, including a 300,000-square-foot solar installation, power its manufacturing sites, while reclaimed wood waste is used to heat its factories.

Today, 99% of Parador's production waste is recycled, and its operations are validated under the EU's stringent EMAS III environmental management system-the only flooring brand to hold this distinction. Additional certifications include an EcoVadis Gold Medal (placing Parador in the top 5 percent of companies worldwide for sustainability performance) and ISO 14001 certification for environmental management.

Every product is backed by Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Health Product Declarations (HPDs) available on request, providing complete transparency for architects and designers who specify Parador floors.

Global Vision, Rooted in Responsibility

With European craftsmanship at its core and a growing global presence, Parador combines precision engineering with a deep respect for natural resources. Modular ONE captures that philosophy in physical form-a product that embodies how design, performance, and responsibility can coexist without compromise.

"ONE PLANET. ONE CHANCE." That simple statement drives every decision at Parador, from how the company sources its materials to how it powers its factories. And with Modular ONE, the brand is demonstrating what circular design looks like in practice: thoughtful, transparent, and built to endure.
