Original in Berlin is redefining what it means to live with vintage

Inside the Berlin-based gallery blurring the lines between

collectible design, emotional interiors, and curating a life well lived

In the heart of Berlin, surrounded by Brutalist façades and a maze of restored Bauhaus lighting, a new kind of gallery is reshaping how we experience vintage design. Original in Berlin has quietly become a global reference for rare mid-century furniture and collectible interiors, serving not just as a source, but as a compass for curators, collectors, and designers reimagining what it means to live with intention.

Founded by Lars Triesch, the gallery is home to over 2,000 pieces spanning European and American icons, from Pierre Chapo to George Nelson, Charlotte Perriand to Hans Wegner. Every piece is handpicked, restored by an in-house workshop, and thoughtfully presented for contemporary homes that seek soul over spectacle.

"We choose based on emotion, not just pedigree," says Triesch. "It's about how a piece makes you feel in a space. That instinct still matters."

Original in Berlin's process is rooted in craftsmanship, but the experience is anything but traditional. Beyond the showroom, the brand cultivates an active private WhatsApp group where new arrivals are previewed in real-time to a trusted circle of designers, collectors, and longtime clients. Some pieces never even make it to the website.

"One of our favorite moments was a Pierre Chapo dining set that sold within minutes to a Barcelona art collector," says Triesch. "He later sent a photo styled with vintage ceramics and dramatic lighting-it was exactly right. That kind of connection is what we're chasing.

With an in-house team of skilled German woodworkers, the gallery also supports architects and interior designers with tailor-made cabinetry and built-in solutions, offering the level of customization and craftsmanship typically reserved for high-end ateliers. For Triesch, collecting is not about nostalgia-it's about relevance. Original in Berlin's aesthetic spans multiple disciplines, often including vintage cars, architecture, watches, jewelry, and clothing in its storytelling. The connecting thread is a shared value system: quality, restraint, and a cultivated eye.

"It's not about styling a lifestyle," he says. "It's about living in a way where every object has a story, a reason, and a resonance."

As interest in collectible design continues to rise-especially in the U.S, Original in Berlin stands out for its ability to balance connoisseurship with a sense of warmth, personality, and lived experience. In a market saturated with sameness, the gallery offers a different kind of luxury: one built slowly, with care.
