KATRIEN VAN DER SCHUEREN, REPRESENTED BY GALERIE JAG

With Glow, artist Katrien Van Der Schueren unveils at Galerie JAG a new collection of lighting sculptures that expands her sculptural practice into the realm of illumination, treating light as both a material and a medium. Conceived as functional sculptures, each piece in the collection is hand-sculpted in concrete without the use of molds, a meticulous process that guarantees the absolute uniqueness of every work. Guided by intuition and the movement of the hand, subtle variations shape singular forms that possess a distinctly organic presence.

Finished with a cold-applied liquid metal coating, the works capture the depth and tactile quality of metal while retaining the fluidity and expressive movement characteristic of the artist's hand. Through this collection, Katrien Van Der Schueren affirms a sculptural practice in which light becomes a sensitive extension of matter, expanding the dialogue between form, material, and illumination.

The Embrace collection is defined by a subtle balance between strength and softness. Conceived as a series of sculptural lighting pieces, each work shapes and diffuses light organically, directing and softening its presence within a space. The floor lamp embodies this duality in particular, combining a strong sculptural presence with a warm, inviting atmosphere.

A delicate fold reveals a hidden light source, creating a harmonious interplay between light and form. The resulting glow is soft, enveloping, and nuanced, bringing warmth and depth to its surroundings.

Inspired by the 17th-century Wunderkammer, Curio unfolds as a collection of sculptural wall works that invite visitors to explore a living archive of memory, material, and discovery. Expanding on the ideas first introduced in The Ark of Us, presented by Galerie JAG at PAD Paris earlier this year, the new series transforms the space into an immersive environment where carved wood, textured plaster, stone, and bronze engage in a shared material dialogue.

Drawing inspiration from the mythological ark as a symbol of preservation, this ensemble of modular bas-reliefs reflects the way identity is shaped through experience, history, and personal narratives. Hidden compartments embedded within the works function as small treasure boxes, inviting visitors to contribute their own memories and stories. As a result, the sculptures remain open to new contributions, evolving and growing over time.

MAXIME BELLAUNAY - REPRESENTED BY MAISON PARISIENNE GALLERY

Presented by Maison Parisienne Gallery, Maxime Bellaunay unveils À fleur d'écorce, a series first exhibited at Révélations Biennial 2025 at the Grand Palais and later at PAD Paris this spring, alongside Le chêne qui pousse dans la carrière.

Through these two collections, the artist explores the dialogue between wood, stone, and light through sculptures crafted from branches gathered around his workshop, including ash, plane tree, oak, and Japanese pagoda tree, combined with mineral materials sourced during projects and travels across France, Japan, and Australia. Saint-Maximin limestone, brass, and fragments of hammered and patinated metal punctuate the works, some becoming tactile switches that illuminate the sculptures at the touch of a hand.

Each piece forms a poetic landscape where natural materials are transformed and enter into dialogue, weaving together craftsmanship, territory, and light.

About Maxime Bellaunay

Maxime Bellaunay, cabinetmaker and sculptor, tells the story of the landscape through his work. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, he extracts materials, colors, and textures that he translates into furniture pieces and sculptural works alike. Guided by a spontaneous and intuitive approach, Bellaunay allows the material itself to influence the form of each creation. By embracing the irregularities of stone, the organic patterns of wood, and the subtle qualities of metal, he establishes an instinctive dialogue with his materials, crafting raw and singular landscapes in sculptural form. He creates unique and bespoke pieces shaped by his travels between France and Japan, where craftsmanship, nature, and memory converge.

About Katrien Van Der Schueren

Katrien Van Der Schueren is a self-taught Belgian sculptor based in Los Angeles whose work combines a deep respect for artistic tradition with a distinctly contemporary voice. Rooted in curiosity and discovery, her practice is continually shaped by cultural encounters and landscapes that inspire new ways of seeing, understanding, and creating.

Material experimentation lies at the heart of her process. Van Der Schueren approaches wood, stone, clay, metal, resin, and composite materials as active collaborators, encouraging them to transform in unexpected ways. Each piece reflects a refined technical mastery while retaining an element of unpredictability, feminine, powerful, and subtly subversive. Raw yet poetic, her works are sought after for their ability to transform architectural and spatial environments, moving fluidly between sculpture, design, and installation.
